Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has given insight into his fitness regime, while stating that he does not like to boast about it on social media. The 33-year-old has received praise from all quarters for his sensational performances during the 2023 World Cup.

At the start of the tournament, he did not have a place in India’s playing XI. He warmed the bench for the first four matches and only got a chance to play when an unfortunate injury ruled Hardik Pandya out of the competition. And the star pacer grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

In his comeback game, he took a five-wicket haul against New Zealand in Dharamsala and never looked back. He went on to finish the World Cup as the highest wicket-taker despite not playing the first four matches. In just 7 games, Mohammed Shami picked up a staggering 24 wickets, including three five-wicket hauls. Even in the final, he hit his first ball to remove the dangerous David Warner, but could not inspire India to another victory.

Mohammed Shami on his physical condition:

The demand of modern cricket has made it absolutely mandatory for cricketers to maintain maximum levels of fitness. And Mohammed Shami has revealed how hard he works in the gym to stay fit. The fast bowler has revealed that no other cricketer lifts heavier weights than him in the gym. He also revealed that he can do leg presses with a staggering 750kg.

“No other cricketer lifts heavier weights than me in the gym. I don’t like posting on social media so people don’t know. I can do a 750kg leg press,” Mohammed Shami told Aaj Tak.

Earlier, the pacer’s childhood coach Badruddin Siddiqui had opened up about his fitness journey. In a television interview, he revealed the hard work Mohammed Shami did on his farm to improve his physical condition.

“The Shami you are seeing now is a new product. Gym toh sablog karte hai but Shami didn’t do that. He followed desi fitness training to get back into shape and continued the regime there.

“He has been running religiously on his own farm in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. “He has made a plot of land at his country house and whenever he is there, his routine has been to run barefoot,” she had said.
