Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah confirmed on Wednesday (February 14) that Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament will be played in the United States. United States of America (USA). ) and the Caribbean during the month of June.

Jay Shah confirmed the development during the function to name the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium after Niranjan Shah. The BCCI secretary during the speech said that he promised everyone that India would win the T20 World Cup 2024 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

“We may have lost the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. But we won hearts there by winning 10 matches in a row. I am sure India will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in Barbados,” he said.

There was a lot of speculation about Indian captaincy for the T20 World Cup 2024. Until Rohit Sharma was not there, Hardik Pandya was leading the team with young players in the team. The all-rounder was potentially seen as a player to lead the team in the tournament and there were several reports in this regard as well.

This was because Rohit Sharma did not play a single T20I after the T20 World Cup 2022, where India faced a semi-final defeat against England. The opening batsman missed all the 2023 games but he returned to the format as captain during the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

Rohit Sharma did not have a great outing in the first two games as a batsman as he bagged ducks in both games. This caused him to receive a lot of criticism for returning to the format and taking the place of the youngsters. However, he responded to his critics with style.

Rohit Sharma hit a magnificent ton in Bengaluru and silenced all talk. His innings came at a time when India was slipping at 22/4. The batsman led from the front and scored an unbeaten 122 runs which helped his team win the game and also secure the series 3-0 under his captaincy.

Rohit Sharma to play vital role for India in 3rd Test against England

Rohit Sharma is currently the captain of the Indian team in the test series against England. The captain has done a decent job so far as the series between the teams is tied 1-1. The visitors won the first match in Hyderabad while India bounced back strongly and won the match in Vizag.

But as a batsman, Rohit Sharma did not have a great outing as he could not score much in any of the four innings. The batsman died due to low totals in the first two games and is now hoping to turn things around in the third game, which will be played in Rajkot from February 15.

Rohit Sharma will have additional responsibility in the game as he will be the captain of an inexperienced team. India will be without the services of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, while Shreyas Iyer has not been picked. He needs to lead from the front if India is to have a chance of winning the game.
