‘Painless’ Mohammed Shami to return on terms, will not play in Bengal’s next match

Indian national cricket team pacer Mohammed Shami will not take part in Bengal’s upcoming match against the Karnataka team. As per IANS reports, it is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) does not want to rush the pacer’s action.

Reports claimed that Mohammed Shami will play the match against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. There were earlier reports that the fast bowler will play two matches in the domestic circuit before heading to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which he is not a part of so far.

Shami was not named in Bengal’s squad against Karnataka, starting on November 6 in Bengaluru. Although they have named the player unchanged, there is a good chance that the pacer will play against Madhya Pradesh, which is scheduled to start on November 13 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

Later, Shami, during a promotional event in Gurugram, made a statement about his comeback. He mentioned that he is 100% pain free and also expressed his desire to play a few games of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy before returning to the Indian National Cricket Team.

Mohammed Shami could play the third match in Brisbane against Australia

Although Mohammed Shami has not been named in the Indian squad for the Test series against Africa, several reports have claimed that the fast bowler could play the final few games of the series. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test will begin on November 22 in Perth and it is known that the pacer will play from the third match in Brisbane, starting December 14.

Mohammed Shami was all set to return through the ongoing Test series against the New Zealand national cricket team. But the fast bowler faced a setback. He experienced swelling in his right knee which delayed his return and ruled him out of the first games of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Shami last played for India in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He picked 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 to be the leading wicket-taker of the competition.
