The Pakistan Cricket Board is all set to introduce new floodlights at the stadiums that will host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. According to PTI reports, it is learnt that Karachi and Lahore will be the two venues that will get lights ahead of the massive tournament.
Pakistan is all set to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament will be held in February-March next year and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) preparations are perfect and they are making sure to put everything in place.
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s plan to install floodlights comes on the heels of a broader effort to ensure smaller venues such as Quetta, Abbottabad and Peshawar are also equipped with floodlight towers, allowing domestic matches to be played under lights in hot weather.
The old floodlights located in Karachi will be shifted to Quetta and those in Lahore to Rawalpindi. Reports claim that the PCB has also started inviting tenders from eligible companies to provide the lights on a rent basis for the period between August 2024 and July 2025.
A source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the development and said that by installing new lights they want to ensure that the international standard is maintained and there is an uninterrupted supply of light during matches.
“The idea behind this process is to ensure that smaller venues are also equipped with floodlight towers for domestic cricket and major venues like Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, where most of the international games and CT matches would be played, have towers that ensure international standard and uninterrupted supply of light during matches.”
Reports also claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board had invited tenders for supplying generators to cities including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Abbottabad, Quetta and Peshawar. This is because there have been a lot of power fluctuations and issues of power outages.
Pakistan Cricket Board to implement renovations at its stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi ahead of Champions Trophy 2025
Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board will also implement renovations at its stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. This is the reason why the second Test match against Bangladesh in Karachi will be played without spectators. The match will be played from September 30.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be held from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan. Three venues have been designated for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore. All of India’s matches will reportedly be played in Lahore.
But there is no clarity regarding the Indian team’s participation in the tournament. There have been reports that there will be a hybrid model as the BCCI is not willing to send the team to Pakistan. On the other hand, the PCB has been strict in its statement that they will not be shifting the tournament abroad.
