The Pakistan national cricket team has been officially eliminated from the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This comes after the match between the United States of America and Ireland, scheduled for Friday (June 14) was canceled due to rain.
Pakistan’s fate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 depended on the result between the United States of America and Ireland. If the Irish team had won the match, it would have kept the Babar Azam-led team in the tournament as they needed to win the match against Ireland to qualify.
However, with the USA-Ireland match wiped out, this means the Monak Patel-led team qualifies for the Super 8 stage of the tournament. They now have 5 points to their name and the maximum Pakistan can reach is 4 points as they have already lost two games.
Pakistan have been extremely poor in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Coming into the tournament, they looked like one of the big favorites to win the title as many experts were backing them to win the tournament. However, all hopes have been shattered now.
Pakistan started the tournament badly as in what was the biggest upset in the history of the game, they suffered defeat against the United States of America (USA). They batted and bowled poorly but had a chance to win the game when it went into the Super Over. But they failed to win it, resulting in a disappointing defeat.
After that, Pakistan played India and the way they started the game, it looked like they would win the game. They bowled out India by just 119 runs and then went into the chase, needing 47 runs off 47 balls, but lost the match from there.
Two losses in the two games diminished their chances and, although they won against Canada, it was not enough. United States of America, on the other hand, secured two wins with good margins and thus overcame Pakistan to enter the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
They were eliminated because Pakistan lost to the United States – Wasim Jaffer
After Pakistan was eliminated from the 2024 T20 World Cup, Wasim Jaffer posted a tweet stating that they were not eliminated due to a flop between the United States and Ireland. But due to their defeat against the United States. He stated:
“Contrary to popular belief, Pakistan was not eliminated because USA v IRE was rained out. They were eliminated because Pakistan lost to USA :)”

Michael Vaughan also commented on Pakistan’s exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup and said that they are far from being a good white-ball team. He tweeted:
“United States until the Super 8… Cricket is going to become popular in the United States…!! Pakistan is out… at the moment they are very far from being a good white-ball team.”
