DC bought the star mass from India for 14 crores.
The saga surrounding KL Rahul and his former Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team owner Sanjiv Goenka is no secret. The reason is that Rahul had a very public fight with Goenka last season after a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) which LSG lost.
That said, LSG decided not to retain KL Rahul ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction. Sanjiv Goenka had even said before the event in Jeddah that they wanted to retain players who “have a winning mentality”.
Delhi Capitals decided to pick up India’s dynamic batsman in the auction for a whopping INR 14 crore as they themselves were looking for an Indian captain after releasing Rishabh Pant.

Parth Jindal indirectly investigates LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka
However, after the purchase, DC co-owner Parth Jindal indirectly investigated Sanjiv Goenka.
Speaking to RevSportz, Jindal said: “I think KL is a quality player and getting him at that price opened up the budget for us to strengthen other areas. I have known KL personally for a long time and he is a good friend of mine. He thrives on love and respect, and I will give him the love and respect he deserves. I hope he thrives in our atmosphere and does it for Delhi, wins an IPL.”
Talking about DC’s purchases in the IPL 2025 auction, KL Rahul was their top acquisition, followed by Australian pacer Mitchell Starc for INR 11.75 crore. They also exercised their RTMs with Jake Fraser-McGurk, getting him for INR 9 crore and Mukesh Kumar for INR 8 crore.
DC also made some quality buys at steal prices with Ashutosh Sharma for INR 3.80 crore, while they also got Mohit Sharma for INR 2.20 crore and bought Faf du Plessis for his base price of INR 2 crores.
