It is common for state associations to name a stand in the stadium after its star players

Indian Spin Great Ravichandran Ashwin received a rare honor before the start of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 of the city of Chennai with a street that bears his name.

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) had decided to name the residential street of the descending, Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in West Mambalam, such as Ravichandran Ashwin Road.

It is common for state associations to honor their great players by appointing a stadium post after them, but it is not often for municipal corporations to appoint streets after their sports heroes.

Bengaluru had appointed one of its streets after a legendary leg editor and former coach of India, Anil Kumble, and the legend of the hockey, the people of Kizhakkambalam, in the district of Ernakulam in Kerala, had appointed their residential street after him.

According to reports, the proposal was sent by Carrol Ball Event and Marketing Company, owned by Ashwin.

Ashwin had retired from the International Cricket after the second test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Adelaida, bringing an unexpected end to an illustrious career. Tamil Nadu Spinner, who had made his international debut in the Odi series against Sri Lanka in 2010, played a crucial role in the Odi World Cup in India in 2011 under the MS Dhoni captaincy.

The Spinner was also fundamental in the victory of the Champions Trophy 2013 by playing a maiden in its four overs and claiming the great Jonathan Trott and Joe Root WICKETS in the final against England.

In the tests, Ashwin took over the Harbhajan Mantle Singh and Kumble to lead the rotating attack for more than a decade. He became only the ninth bowling player in history and only in the second Indian to overcome 500 test wickts and finished his career with 537 WICKETS of 200 innings that included 37 sets of five WICKET and eight sets of 10 WICKET.

CSK’s prodigal son returns for IPL 2025

The IPL 2025 will be special for Ashwin when he returned to CSK, where he began his career in 2009. In his first period with CSK, Ashwin played 121 games and claimed 120 wickts in an excellent economy of 6.66.

CSK will begin the current season with a clash against the archirival of the Mumbai Indians on Sunday at the Ma Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.
