Former Indian national cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the new head coach of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise confirmed the announcement via social media on Friday (September 6).

Rahul Dravid, under whose leadership the Indian national cricket team won the 2024 T20 World Cup, signed the deal with the Rajasthan Royals in Bengaluru. His tenure with the Indian team ended after the tournament and the franchise has reportedly approached the former India captain to take over the role in the IPL.

Rajasthan Royals posted the picture of Rahul Dravid with CEO Jake Lush McCrum handing him the pink jersey. They posted the picture with the caption:

“Legendary World Cup-winning Indian coach Rahul Dravid is all set for a sensational return to Rajasthan Royals! The cricket icon was snapped receiving his pink jersey from Royals Sports Group CEO Jake Lush McCrum. The RR manager is also believed to have been present, taking in the deal that was signed in Bangalore.”

On his appointment as Rajasthan Royals head coach, Rahul Dravid said that after his stint in India, he feels that the time is right to take up another challenge. He stated:

“After the World Cup, I feel like it’s the perfect time to take on another challenge, and the Royals are the perfect place to do it.”
