“Ravi Bishnoi will not play against South Africa…” – Aakash Chopra

Ravi Bishnoi is fresh off a memorable T20I series against Australia that ended with nine wickets in five matches. He finished as the Player of the Series and is also the new number one ranked T20I bowler. However, despite his recent success, he may not feature in India’s playing XI in the first T2I against South Africa.

Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are back in the Indian T20I team for the South Africa series. Mohammed Siraj, the pacer, is also back. This means that Bishnoi could be one of the players who will not participate in the first game.

Aakash Chopra, while watching a preview of the first T20I on his YouTube channel, said that the Player of the Series against Australia recently could find himself on the bench.

“Who was the Player of the Series in the last series? Ravi Bishnoi. You may not be able to play Ravi Bishnoi here. If you play Ravi Bishnoi, you will drop Kuldeep Yadav. You have created a big dilemma for the team. You won’t be able to play against the Player of the Series from the last series,” Chopra said.

He further said that with Siraj’s return, he, along with Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar, could be the three Indian pacers. India could opt to field five specialist bowlers. The inclusion of Washington Sundar, who was on the bench during the Australia series, could give them a sixth bowling option.

If you play Ravi Bishnoi, can you keep Kuldeep Yadav out? Aakash Chopra

“If you play him (Bishnoi), you will feel how you can keep Kuldeep out. There is no justice. After that, since Siraj has returned, I am thinking about Siraj, Arshdeep and Mukesh,” Chopra added.

He concluded by talking about Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube as all-round options, but noted that neither can bat in the top six. Dube, who was part of the Australia series team, is dropped from the T20I team that traveled to South Africa.

“What are we doing? We are not going to play against one or two guys who do that. Washi (Washington Sundar) and Shivam Dube may be there, but they are not going to bat in the top six,” said Aakash Chopra.

The first T20I will be played in Durban (December 10), the second in Gqeberha (December 12) and the third in Johannesburg (December 14).
