Ravi Shastri reveals best batting position for Rohit Sharma in Adelaide Test

Rohit, who missed the first Test to be with his family for the birth of his second child, will once again lead the Indian team in the Adelaide Test starting December 6.

The second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins on December 6 and there are a lot of rumors about India’s batting order, especially where KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma will bat.

Ravi Shastri has suggested that Rohit Sharma should bat in the middle order for the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide, instead of opening, to accommodate KL Rahul.

Rohit, who missed the first Test to be with his family for the birth of his second child, will once again lead the Indian team in the Adelaide Test.

Shastri highlights Rohit Sharma’s key role in India’s middle-order

Speaking at ICC Review, Shastri emphasized the importance of Rohit’s experience in the middle-order. He believes Rohit’s presence could be a game-changer for India as they look to take a 2-0 lead against Australia.

Shastri believes that Rohit, with his vast experience, is capable of assessing his better position in the lineup, especially against Australia. He believes Rohit should choose the spot where he is most dangerous, considering where Australia would least want him to bat.

“It’s a fantastic boost because there is no doubt about its quality,” Shastri said. “He has a lot of experience. You need that experience in the middle order.”

“He has enough experience to see where it is most dangerous when it comes to Australia. Where wouldn’t Australia like to see it? That is the position you should choose. And he’s the leader of the pack, so he can afford it.”

The former India head coach also highlighted Rahul’s strong form, including his crucial 77 in the second innings in Perth, as a reason to keep him opening. Since Rohit has had limited preparation since arriving in Australia, Shastri believes it would be best to keep the same starting combination, with Rohit batting at number five or six.

“I think he (Rahul) should continue (opening) because Rohit hasn’t had much time since he came here (Australia),” Shastri said.

“Very quickly he had to play the Prime Minister’s XI. But I would say stick with the same configuration. He [Rohit] “I can hit at five or six.”

With Shubman Gill available for the second Test, it will be intriguing to see how India shape their batting line-up, particularly with the pink ball and day-night conditions in Adelaide.
