Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib responded to Ravichandran Ashwin on X (formerly Twitter) after the former faked a hamstring injury against Bangladesh.

Afghanistan faced Bangladesh today in the final Super 8 match of Group 1, which Team India won yesterday after beating Australia. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, secured their place in the second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 against defending champions England.

While Afghanistan, who finished runners-up in Group 1 behind India, will face South Africa in the first semi-final. This will begin at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad with India and England playing at the Providence Stadium on the Island of Guyana.

This edition of the ICC T20 World Cup, like all editions, has given us many moments and one of them took place today. During the match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Super 8, Gulbadin Naib starred in one of the funniest moments in history.

What did Gulbadin Naib do?

Bangladesh were chasing a target of 120+ and the match was deadlocked in a difficult situation as they had lost more than half of their batsmen. Rain also interrupted the game, so the goal was also reviewed and that is why Afghanistan coach Jonathon Trott asked his players to stop the game.

Trott asked his players to delay things as they would have won even if the match had been abandoned. After seeing those instructions, Gulbadin Naib, who was standing at the access cordon, appeared to grab his hamstring and fall to the ground.

Gulbadin Naib acted as if his hamstring hurt and might not be able to continue playing the match. It was clear from the beginning that Naib was faking his injury. Moments later, the referee asked all players to leave the field due to the rain, and a teammate and medical staff saw the All-rounder removed.

He then returned to the field when play resumed and even bowled an over in which he took the wicket of Taskin Ahmed. And when Afghanistan’s victory was confirmed, Gulbadin Naib ran out and ran as if the pain disappeared.

Ravichandran Ashwin reacts

Ravichandran Ashwin quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote that Gulbadin Naib should be shown a red card for the offence. Often in football, players fake their injuries to gain sympathy from the referee and end up being sent off. The Indian journalist wrote: “Red card for Gulbadin Naib😂😂😂” .

Gulbadin responds

Gulbadin Naib then responded to the tweet saying: Kabi khushi kabi gham main huta hai 🤣🤣 Hamstring 🤣” (Sometimes in pain and sometimes in happiness, pulled hamstring occurs).
