Ravichandran Ashwin, a member of the Indian national cricket team, commented on the existence of specific venues for Test cricket. He said it helps the players and cited the examples of Australia and England, saying it is above his pay grade to comment on whether this should happen in India.
The Kanpur Test between India and Bangladesh ended with the hosts winning the game by a margin of 7 wickets and also winning the series by 2-0. However, the game was marred by rain and nearly two and a half days were washed out due to rain, wet outfields and poor drainage system.
This ignited the long-standing debate over the existence of dedicated testing centers in India. When Virat Kohli was the captain of the team, he suggested that there should be only five venues where Test cricket is played as it helps both the host and foreign teams. And he mentioned that five venues must be properly maintained and cared for so that the games do not stop.
As the second Test concluded, Ravichandran Ashwin was asked about the same, to which he replied that playing in designated spots helps the players. He believes Australia does not play India in Canberra because they do not play where they are not familiar with the conditions. Speaking to Jio Cinema, he explained:
“Does it help a player to have only a few Test centres? Certainly, yes. Because when we go to Australia, they play India in only five Test centres. They don’t play us in Canberra. They don’t play.” us in any of the other places where they won’t be very familiar with the conditions, and also England.”
“They have select Test centers and that’s where they play. Some of them are just white-ball centers. Can we do it here (in India)? That’s above my pay grade. I can’t comment on that.”
Ravichandran Ashwin cites benefits Indian cricketers get from having so many testing centres.
Ravichandran Ashwin further spoke about the benefits Indian cricketers get from having so many Test centres. He mentioned that players from all over the country play Test cricket. While giving more details about the same, he explained:
“Firstly, what are the benefits that Indian cricketers get from having so many Test centres? There are cricketers who come and play Test cricket from all corners of this country.
“It’s a huge country and it’s triggered that kind of urgency and that kind of passion among cricketers to be able to come and play for this country. That’s very positive. The second is that there are certain ingredients that are necessary to make a Test a reality. of coincidence.
