Ravichandran Ashwin was the shining light for the Indian national cricket team on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh. The all-rounder turned out to be a key man for his team and made sure that he helped his team end the day on a good note, after having started the day on a poor note, losing a few wickets quickly.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who came out to bat at number 8, put in a superlative effort with the bat. The off-spinner batted with complete control, controlled the ball to perfection and ensured that he played a crucial innings for his team in the context of the game.
Ravichandran Ashwin scored his sixth Test century and had everyone applauding him for his innings. He ended Day 1 with an unbeaten 102 runs off 112 balls. The home-spinner also hit 10 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. His stellar innings with the bat helped the Indian National Cricket Team finish with a score of 339 runs on the board.
Ravichandran Ashwin, while talking about his innings, said that Chepauk has given him a lot of good memories. He admitted that before the Test, he worked a lot on his batting and tried to hit the ball hard like Rishabh Pant. Speaking to the announcers, he explained:
“It’s always a special feeling to play in front of the home crowd. This is a ground I love playing cricket on. It’s given me so many wonderful memories. The last time I made a hundred, you were the coach Ravi bhai (Ravi Shastri). It’s a special feeling. It helps that I’ve come back at the end of a T20 tournament (TNPL) and worked quite a bit on my batting.
“Of course, I’ve always been swinging my bat outside the off-stump. I’ve been working on a few things and on a surface like this with a bit of spiciness, if you’re going for the ball, you might as well go for it hard like Rishabh does.”
Jaddu has been one of our best batsmen in our team in the last few years – Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin also spoke about the nature of the pitch and also praised Ravindra Jadeja. He said that the all-rounder helped him in his innings and also praised him as the best Test batsman. He explained:
“It’s an old Chennai surface with a bit of bounce and carry. The red clay pitch allows you to play some shots if you are willing to line up and give it some power when there is width. He (Jadeja) was a big help; there was a time when I was sweating and a bit tired but Jaddu quickly noticed it and guided me through that phase.
“Jaddu has been one of the best hitters on our team over the last few years. His presence was very solid and he was also very helpful in telling me that we don’t have to turn doubles into triples, which was very helpful for me.”
Ravichandran Ashwin would be hoping to convert his century into a big one and then reveal his magic with the ball.
