I don’t think Jadeja has me here: Steve Smith picks Ravichandran Ashwin as best spinner
Steve Smith also picked Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of Ravindra Jadeja, highlighting that the player has knocked him out even in Australian conditions. While explaining the spinner’s skills, he added:
“Ashwin has me here a couple of times. I don’t think Jadeja has me here, but I think Ashwin, in these conditions, has great skills. He changes the way he plays from one surface to another; he bowls what is needed.” .
“He goes over the ball when he needs to. He can go under the ball and reads the batsman well, so yes, I will pick Ashwin.”

I always find facing Ashwin a good challenge and I think that is why he has been so successful – Usman Khawaja
Usman Khawaja rated Ravindra Jadeja’s skills highly but stated that Ravichandran Ashwin is the most cautious. He highlighted how the player reads the minds of the batsmen and added that facing him is a challenge. He added:
“Jadeja has a very good skill set. He is like a metronome. He just goes bang, bang, bang, over and over again. You see, Ashwin is the most cautious. He is the one who thinks. Every time I face Ashwin, He’s trying to think what I’m doing, I’m trying to think what he’s trying to do.
“I can see it and you can see when the players are trying to find a way to get you out if they are setting you up. And he has always been that kind of person. So I always find facing Ashwin a good challenge and I think That’s why it’s been so successful for so long.”
Nathan Lyon and Alex Carey also picked Ravichandran Ashwin instead of Ravindra Jadeja.
“I think Ashwin finds ways, he’s ultra-competitive and he gets into the competition,” Alex Carey said.
“Ashwin obviously has that bounce and Jadeja has consistency and pace. So against me, that’s probably all you need,” Nathan Lyon said.
