RCB Pacer tops Battle of India Test prospects on Day 1 of Ranji Trophy 2024/25

A Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star outclassed a batsman seen as an Indian prospect on the first day of the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy. The bowler has been in good form of late and provided an ideal start to his team with the new ball.

RCB left-arm pacer Yash Dayal dismissed Abhimanyu Easwaran for 5 on the final delivery of the fifth over. Easwaran has been among the most consistent batsmen at the domestic level and is close to being selected for the Indian team, especially in the absence of one of the openers.

He would have liked to continue his good form but the left-arm pacer cut short his innings to provide an early breakthrough to Uttar Pradesh. Dayal has been impressive with the red ball of late as he bowled well in the Duleep Trophy as well, and the selectors noticed his potential immediately.

Yash was also called up to the national team during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, even though he could not play any matches. He was later released from the squad to play in the Iran Cup, where he could not perform according to expectations.

Sudip Chatterjee hits wonderful ton to provide stability

While Abhimanyu Easwaran could not score much, Bengal’s other opener Sudip Chatterjee joined hands with Sudip Kumar Gharami to stabilize the innings. The duo formed a massive 198-run margin for the second wicket to get Bengal’s innings back on track after a first wicket.

Unfortunately, Sudip scored 90 after looking so good. However, Sudip continued his innings and scored a wonderful ton to keep his finish tight.

However, Bengal again lost some quick wickets after a great partnership for the second wicket. From 212/1, Bengal fell to 236/6, losing as many as five wickets in 24 runs.

Vipraj Nigam wreaked havoc with a slightly older ball to trigger a collapse, taking three quick wickets to put Uttar Pradesh back in the driver’s seat. Meanwhile, Saurabh Kumar got the big fish, Sudip Chatterjee, who departed after a well-played 116 as Bengal are currently at 237/6 in 74 overs.
