‘Red soil or black soil?’: Details of India-Bangladesh Kanpur Test ground revealed

After the thrilling first Test match between India and Bangladesh, it is now time for the final and decisive match of the series. The second match of the two-match Test series between the teams will be held at Green Park in Kanpur from Friday (September 27).

The focus has shifted to the second match of the series, and the pitch will be key. As per reports from ESPNCricinfo, it has been learnt that the surface for the final match of the Test series will be very different from the first match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The second Test match between India and Bangladesh will be played on black soil, and it is known that the surface will offer very little bounce and carry. Reports also claimed that the pitch at Green Park Kanpur is unlikely to change position, and it will be flatter, with less bounce and the surface will become increasingly slower as the Test match progresses.

It was also reported that as the pitch for the second match will be played on black soil, which will be slow, both teams are likely to make changes. India and Bangladesh played with three seamers each in the first match, and in the upcoming match, two pacers plus three bowlers are likely to be involved.

Hence, there are high chances of India bringing in Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel in the squad. On the other hand, Bangladesh might bring in left-arm spinner Taijul Islam in place of Nahid Rana. Reports also claimed that if Shakib Al Hasan misses the game due to injury, then left-arm spinner Nayeem Hasan will come into the picture.

The last Test to be played at the Kanpur stadium was in 2021 when India played against the New Zealand national cricket team. The hosts played with three bowlers, Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar Patel, but there was not much help for the bowlers as the match lasted for five days and ended in a draw.

The bowlers will have to put in a lot of effort on the Green Park surface in Kanpur, while it will be a great opportunity for the batsmen of both teams to get some runs. During the last match at the venue, Shreyas Iyer scored a century and a fifty on debut, and Tom Latham scored two half-centuries.

India won the first test by 280 runs

India took a 1-0 lead in the series after their excellent performance with bat and ball at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai where the match was played on red soil. The Rohit Sharma-led team won the series opener by a massive margin of 280 runs and bagged important points for the World Test Championship.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the star of the Indian team in the match. He scored a century and picked six runs to win the Man of the Match award. Apart from him, Ravindra Jadeja also had a great performance with the bat and ball, taking 5 wickets and scoring 87 runs. Young Gill and Pant also scored centuries.

The hosts would be eager to repeat a similar performance in the second match and complete the rout. They would go into the next match with plenty of confidence.
