He is a fast pacer who can bowl long lengths and generate additional bounce off the deck.
A released Mumbai Indians (MI) star celebrated aggressively after dismissing Hardik Pandya in the fifth delivery of the 17th over during the first T20I between South Africa and India in Durban. It was a clever ploy on their part and it worked exceptionally well amidst the carnage.
Gerald Coetzee bowled a slower delivery outside the line of stump, to which Hardik tried to cut the deep region of backward point but couldn’t get the timing right. The fielder was prepared for this shot and the ball flew straight into the hands of Marco Jansen to shorten Hardik’s innings.
After taking the wicket, Coetzee was encouraged, because his plan worked brilliantly. As always, he celebrated aggressively by punching the air with his fist and roaring with all his energy.

After landing a big fish, Coetzee was delighted as Hardik can be very dangerous in the death overs and could have hit some quick boundaries to take the total away. It was a timely wicket for South Africa as they made a solid comeback in the latter part of the innings after the Indian batsmen wreaked havoc with the bat on a good batting platform.
Gerald Coetzee could be in demand during IPL 2025 auction
The South African speedster was in high demand during the last IPL auction, fetching INR 5 crore from five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI). However, MI released him ahead of the IPL 2025 auction as his performances were not convincing enough during the last season, his first in the league.
Ahead of a new auction, Coetzee has re-registered his name and should fetch a significant amount. He is a fast pacer who can bowl long lengths and generate additional bounce off the deck.
In addition, his slower ones have also started to turn out well, and Coetzee has been using them with precision. Therefore, he is an excellent option for middle and death in T20.
He will be a long-term investment for any team and can bat a bit in the lower order. These types of players are rare, so teams could pursue him with all their might and Coetzee may start a bidding war.
