He revealed that he asked the lighting coordinator to turn on the lights on the practice fields, but the coordinator mistakenly turned off the lights on the main field.
During the 18th over of Australia’s first innings in the Adelaide Test, the floodlights went out twice to stop play. Harshit Rana, who was bowling, was visibly frustrated and not happy when it happened for the second time since he broke his momentum.
Now, during the Brisbane Test, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has revealed the real reason behind the blackout in the day-night Test. He revealed that he asked the lighting coordinator to turn on the lights on the practice fields, but the coordinator mistakenly turned off the lights on the main field.
“Yes, I can believe it. I was with our assistant coach sitting in the dark. I asked the security guy if I could turn on the lights in the middle, that would be great. And the next minute, (the entire field) exploded. And I told Boroughs (assistant coach) ‘you flipped the wrong switch.’ “He said ‘no’ and then we sat in the dark for 15 minutes in the nets waiting to get hit.”

In reality, Lyon was supposed to take over as night watchman if more wickets fell in the dying moments of the day, so he wanted to get into that batting rhythm. However, that was not necessary as Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne saw the day off for Australia.
Australia looking to take advantage in five-match series
After a crushing loss in the first Test against India, Australia bounced back strongly in the next game and recorded a 10-wicket win. They leveled the series and will now look to take advantage in the third Test in Brisbane.
Due to rain, only 13.2 overs were possible on the first day of the third Test before the game was cancelled. The forecast does not look very good for the remaining days of the game, but both teams would prefer some action rather than settling for a draw.
As the series progresses, Nathan Lyon’s value will increase as he will receive more assistance in Melbourne and Sydney. Even in Brisbane, it could come into play later in the match.
He knows the conditions well and would like to take advantage of them, as has been the case over the years. While the quick Australians must perform, a lot will also depend on how Nathan Lyon fares in the rest of the series.
