Pakistan national cricket team is going through a tough time in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. Things got even worse for them after they suffered a heavy defeat in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh national cricket team at the Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan suffered a 0-2 drubbing against Bangladesh. This was the first time in the history of the longest format of the game that the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team won the Test series against Pakistan.

Pakistan, in the first match, suffered a loss of 10 wickets, and it was a surprise because they faced this after declaring the innings, having scored 448 runs. But after that, nothing went right for them as they were unable to deliver good results with the ball, with Bangladesh taking the lead by over 100 runs.

The Shan Masood-led side failed with the bat as they set a target of just 30 runs for Bangladesh to win, which they achieved with 10 wickets in hand. They were expected to stage a comeback in the second game but it was not to be as they crashed out in the second game as well.

When asked to bat, the hosts went all out and scored 274 runs but what was impressive was that Bangladesh were left at 26/6. It looked like they would take a big lead but that was not the case as Litton Das (138) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78) brought the team back into the game, taking the team to 262 runs in the first innings.

Bangladesh then bowled out the hosts for 172 runs in the second innings, allowing them to reach 185 runs. The visitors then put in a sensational effort by chasing down the target with 6 wickets in hand and winning the series by a 2-0 margin.

Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship are very slim

Following the Test series defeat against Bangladesh national cricket team, Pakistan has dropped to eighth place in the World Test Championship points table. Their chances of qualifying for the final, which will be played at Lord’s, are very slim.

In the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship, the Shan Masood-led team has managed to win just 2 matches out of 7 matches so far. The points percentage (PCT) is 19.05, which is better than only West Indies, who are at the bottom of the table.

To qualify for the final of the World Test Championship, Pakistan needs to win the next three matches against the England National Cricket Team at home. After that, they need to sweep South Africa at home before facing the West Indies at home.

To have a chance, the Men in Green therefore need to win all seven of their remaining matches. If they do, their points percentage will rise to 58.2. However, that won’t even guarantee them a place in the finals as India and Australia are at the top with a higher PCT. The Shan Masood-led team will also depend on other results.
