Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant was disappointed with the way his team performed in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He admitted that they were outclassed by the opposition and that they needed to reflect better. As a team.
In what was the biggest win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by a huge margin of 106 runs. This was the third defeat for Rishabh Pant’s team as they found themselves reeling in the bottom half of the table.
It was a poor game with both bat and ball for Delhi Capitals as KKR did not allow them to take charge of the game. Sunil Narine, 85 runs off just 39 balls, put pressure on the bowlers from the beginning and after that, they couldn’t control things.
Debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi was not far behind and impressed many with his half-century. Before Andre Russell (41) and Rinku Singh (26) finished the innings on a high. Based on the brutal effort with the bat, Kolkata Knight Riders posted a total of 272 runs.
Delhi Capitals struggled to get going with the bat as Vaibhav Arora and Mitchell Starc got KKR off to a flying start by combining to pick 4 quick wickets. Rishabh Pant (55) and Tristan Stubbs (54) both reached fifties, but it was not enough as they made just 166 runs.
Rishabh Pant admitted that they were all over the place and could have done better with the ball. He revealed his message to his team after the first inning and, speaking to reporters, explained:
“We were all over the place (with the ball), we could have done better, and I feel like it’s one of those days. As a batting unit, we talk about going hard (after achieving the target) and that is how we approach these games because it is better to do everything possible to achieve the total than not to chase it.”
Rishabh Pant also spoke about non-DRS moments and said that errors on the screen caused the error. During the fourth over of the innings, the keeper-batsman had opted for DRS against Narine, but the umpires did not allow it as he was running late.
“It was quite noisy (the place) and you couldn’t see the stopwatch on the screen (talking about non-DRS moments) and there was also some problem with the screen, there are some things you can control and some things you can’t. control, you just need to let yourself go.” he said.
It’s time to reflect better as a team, as an individual and come back strong in the next match – Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant further made a strong statement, saying that they need to reflect on the things they are missing and come back stronger in the next game. He also talked about his physical condition and said that he is having fun. He added.
“It is time to reflect better as a team, as an individual and come back strong in the next game. “I enjoy every day (I talk about his fitness and his comeback) and cricket has its own ups and downs and at the same time you can try to give your best as an individual.”
Delhi Capitals will be next in action when they take on Mumbai Indians April 7.
