‘Rishabh Pant had knee pain’: Sarfaraz Khan talks about his funny jump and confusion

Indian National Cricket Team batsman Sarfaraz Khan opened up about the funny miscommunication with Rishabh Pant during Day 4 of the ongoing first Test against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. He said he denied the run because he remembered that the keeper-batsman had pain in his leg.

Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant are the main reason why the Indian national cricket team has a chance to win the ongoing game. The duo came up with the amazing partnership that brought India back into the game and helped the team take the lead in the second innings.

Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan batted for almost two sessions and frustrated the New Zealand bowlers. The duo played an aggressive style of cricket during their innings and smashed the bowlers all over the park. What was impressive was that they were equally good against spinners and fast bowlers.

Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan were involved in a mix-up

Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan were also involved in a mix-up, and it could have resulted in the wicket of the keeper-batsman. It happened during the 56th over of India’s second innings when the right-hander played the cut shot towards deep point and behind the bowling of Matt Henry.

Sarfaraz immediately called for the double run and played the first run very quickly while, on the other hand, Rishabh Pant did not seem interested. But the righty immediately realized that there was no chance of making the extra run and denied it.

But what caught the attention of many was the way he denied the race. Sarfaraz Khan was seen hilariously jumping and waving his arms while the wicketkeeper-batsman kept looking at the ball. But fortunately, he returned in time and saved his wicket.

While talking about the race, Sarfaraz Khan mentioned that Pant was having pain in his knee and they had decided to run carefully. He said he immediately realized this and that’s why he denied accepting double the amount. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“Rishabh had received a blow to his knee, so we had this conversation which we will carry out carefully. Initially I called 2, but then I remembered that he had pain in his knee. Thank God, he survived.”

We were having a good conversation: Sarfaraz Khan on batting with Rishabh Pant

Pant and Sarfaraz shared a mammoth partnership of 177 runs and ensured that the Indian National Cricket Team got the lead. While talking about their partnership, the right-hander said that the wicketkeeper-batsman was scoring runs freely and wanted to give him a strike.

Sarfaraz believes India is still in the game. Feel the ball is turning and if they can take early wickets. He added:

“Just that the runs score freely. We were having a good conversation. I wanted to give him singles because we know what he can do. It’s not an easy wicket. We are still in the game. The ball is turning. If we can get it. 2-3 quick wickets , then New Zealand will have some problems.”

Sarfaraz finished with 150 innings off 195 balls. He batted at a strike rate of around 77 and also hit 18 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.

On the other hand, it was a heartbreak for Rishabh Pant. The keeper-batsman continued to bat positively after Sarfaraz got out and almost got a ton. But he managed 99 runs off 105 balls. He hit 9 fours and 5 sixes in his innings.
