Assam’s young batsman Riyan Parag has created history in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Chhattisgarh. Riyan Parag recorded the second-fastest century in the history of the domestic red-ball tournament, displaying an impressive performance with the bat.

Riyan Parag played a captain’s knock to save the Assam team in their first Ranji Trophy match of the season against Chhattisgarh in Raipur. After moving on, Assam were bowled out for 254 runs in their second innings on the fourth day of the ongoing match.

Riyan Parag smashes second-fastest hundred in Ranji Trophy

Riyan Parag, who is in excellent form this season, arrived at the crease with his team on 2-78. Assam lost the third wicket in the form of Ghadigaonkar (16) with the same total. Parag did not receive much support from the other side as the team lost wickets at regular intervals.

Parag reached his century in just 56 balls during Assam’s opening match. He scored 155 runs off 87 balls, 11 fours and 12 sixes. Parag is second on the list, with Rishabh Pant holding the record for the fastest century off 48 balls during the 2016-17 season.

Parag scored his second century in first-class cricket, marking his highest score in this format. The 22-year-old amassed a total of 1,583 runs, averaging over 33 in red-ball cricket. Furthermore, the all-rounder has smashed 10 half-centuries in just 26 matches.

Parag has shown his all-round capabilities, claiming 49 wickets at an average of 36.73, including a single five-wicket haul. He is yet to receive a maiden call-up to the national team, despite impressive performances by him in domestic cricket over the past few years.

Assam fails to impress in season opener against Chhattisgarh

Earlier, Chhattisgarh managed to score 327 runs in their first innings of the match. In reply, Assam struggled and were bowled out for 159. Denish Das (52) contributed a half-century and Akash Sengupta added 22 runs. Sourabh Majumdar took five wickets for 41 runs.

With the continuation imposed, Riyan Parag played a pivotal role in guiding Assam’s second innings to take the lead. The Northeast team secured a lead of 86 runs after two innings with the bat. In the second innings, Assam’s last seven batsmen failed to reach the double-digit mark.

Riyan Parag to represent Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 season

Riyan Parag faced challenges during the IPL 2023 season, managing just 78 runs in seven innings at an average of 13.00 for Rajasthan Royals (RR). Despite his mediocre performance, the 2008 IPL champions decided to retain him for the next season.
