Rohan Jaitley has denied reports that he will succeed Jay Shah as the next BCCI secretary. Rohan Jaitley is currently the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

Ever since reports emerged that Jay Shah would be leaving his post as BCCI secretary to nominate himself for the post of International Cricket Council (ICC) president, Jaitley’s name has been doing the rounds and he was believed to be the favourite for the post.

Rohan Jaitley denies reports of Jay Shah being impersonated as BCCI secretary

But Rohan Jaitley has cleared the air and denied such reports. Jaitley made his plans very clear on August 26 (Monday) by stating that he will not take up any role at the BCCI level.

He also stated that he is more focused on making the ongoing Delhi Premier League popular.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is currently hosting the Delhi Premier League, which features six teams from different parts of the union territory. It is the inaugural season of the league.

As far as their Ranji Trophy performances are concerned, Delhi has not had their best year. The team has gone through a lot of internal fights which have affected their performance over the years.

For this reason, some prominent names from Delhi like Nitish Rana and Dhruv Shorey have gone to play the Ranji Trophy for other teams.

The last time Delhi won the Ranji Trophy was in 2007-08, when Gautam Gambhir led the team to title victory.

Since then, the team has struggled and their performances have declined with each season. They reached the final in 2017-18 but lost to Vidarbha in the summit clash.

Will Jay Shah join ICC?

Meanwhile, Rohan Jaitley’s denial has made the race even more interesting. But it all depends on whether Jay Shah steps down.

Shah has not yet formally announced his resignation as BCCI secretary, but a decision is expected to be taken soon.

If Shah decides to run for ICC president, he will likely have no problems, as he already has all the members behind him.

If he becomes ICC president, his term will last three years and will begin on December 1.

Greg Barclay, who currently chairs the ICC, has already decided not to stand for election. Barclay is serving his second term in office. His decision not to stand for election has made the path easier for Jay Shah.

Jay Shah’s epic tenure as BCCI secretary

Jay Shah has emerged as a renowned cricket administrator in recent times. He has introduced several reforms in Indian cricket during his tenure and has worked hard for the welfare of the game in the country. His tenure as BCCI Secretary still has one more year left.

During his tenure, he also focused on getting players to value domestic cricket more than the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). Finding a replacement at the BCCI will not be easy, but he can return to the role once his break ends.
