With India being bowled out for a relatively low total of 180, the visitors would have hoped to make an early breakthrough.
India captain Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant made a big mistake at the slips to offer Australia opener Nathan McSweeney an early respite during the ongoing second Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Adelaide .
With India being bowled out for a relatively low total of 180, the visitors would have hoped to make an early breakthrough. The opportunity presented itself during the seventh innings of the Australian innings when India’s talismanic pacer Jasprit Bumrah was bowling from the other end.
Bumrah bowled a short delivery to Nathan McSweeney, forcing him to play. The ball left him late and took the outside edge to the right of Rishabh Pant. The goalkeeper extended his right hand as he lunged, managing to touch the ball with just one finger.
This slight deviation caused the ball to bounce towards Rohit Sharma at first slip, but he could not react in time when the ball hit his wrist and the Indian captain looked a little uncomfortable. Replays showed that if Rishabh Pant had not tried to catch the ball, it would probably have gone straight into the captain’s hands.

At the time of writing, Australia’s score read 47 for 1 in 19 overs with Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney at the crease.

The Indian bowlers will be tasked with making strides at regular intervals, given the low total recorded by the Indian batsmen, and stay in the hunt for the contest.
