Reports added that the BCCI wanted him to take charge of the T20I team for the upcoming South series. But Rohit Sharma asked for the rest of the white-ball leg of the tour. The officials then appointed Suryakumar Yadav as captain. The batsman led India to a 4-1 victory in the recently concluded T20I series against Australia.
Rohit Sharma will take charge of the Test series team. India will play a two-match series against South Africa starting December 26. The second match will be played on January 3. It remains to be seen when he will return to the T20I team. He has not played in this format since the 2023 T20 World Cup.
