Had it been the original game, that ball would have crashed into the stumps and got Rohit Sharma out.
Rohit Sharma was beaten by Devdutt Padikkal’s delivery during the net session ahead of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. Padikkal has often been seen practicing his spin in the nets throughout this series and was landing some tackles on the Indian captain in the viral clip.
He bowled a delivery, to which Rohit stepped just a foot forward to defend, but the ball stayed low and passed him. Had it been the original game, that ball would have crashed into the stumps and got Rohit Sharma out.
Rohit reportedly had a prolonged net session to regain his lost rhythm. He looked good, his feet moved well and he played with solid technique, which must have given some hope to the team management and the Indian fans.

This delivery from Devdutt could be an exception as it remained low after the delivery and Rohit couldn’t have done anything even though he tried to lower his bat at the right time. What happens in the nets is not always reflected in the original game, and Rohit hopes to overcome his challenges and lead from the front with a stroke of effect.
Rohit Sharma’s poor run in Tests since the home series
Since the start of the home season in September this year, Rohit Sharma has been going through a rough patch, which has extended even to Australia. Rohit has 152 runs at an average of 11.69 in 13 innings, including a fifty.
In the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, he has 19 runs in three outings, with a best of 10. Rohit has not batted as an opener on this tour and has moved to the middle order to accommodate KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top.
But his returns have not improved, and the pacers have exploited Rohit’s obvious weaknesses in off-cut deliveries. With two matches left, India needs their captain to fire up and show some form.
His calls and tactics on the field have also been baffling, making life difficult for Rohit. He could continue to bat in the middle order but has enough experience playing in the middle order to adjust accordingly.
