Rohit Sharma reacts to MS Dhoni’s congratulatory message on India’s T20 World Cup win

Rohit Sharma led India to their second T20 World Cup victory as India beat South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados on Saturday. In the process, he became the only player to win the title as a player and captain.

India won the first T20 World Cup title in 2007 which It was the inaugural edition of the tournament. They won the second title 17 years later under Rohit’s captaincy. Earlier, India lost the 2014 T20 World Cup final against Sri Lanka under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

MSD wished the Indian team a great achievement on Saturday. The captain who won the first T20 World Cup title for India sent his best wishes to Rohit Sharma and the Indian team for his remarkable achievement.

Dhoni took to Instagram to send his best wishes and wrote, ” ““WORLD CHAMPIONS 2024. My heart rate was racing, well done for staying calm, having self-belief and doing what you did. From all Indians at home and all over the world, a big thank you for bringing the World Cup home. CONGRATULATIONS. Thank you so much for the priceless birthday gift,” Dhoni wrote.

Dhoni, who is usually not intimidated by emotions, could not control his emotions this time as the sheer joy and satisfaction he felt was seen in the words he used to express himself.

Dhoni was the mentor of the Indian T20I team in 2021, when India faced elimination in the league stage following losses against Pakistan and New Zealand. From there, to seeing India finally win an ICC title almost an age later, Dhoni was also a part of the journey.

“Dhoni used to be a fabulous player. He did a lot for us and the country. I felt good that he appreciated us,” Rohit told reporters after the match.

The Indian captain thanked many players for their T20 World Cup victory. From MS Dhoni to Rahul Draviid, Rohit made sure to thank everyone who worked hard behind India’s recent success.

India finally won an ICC title after 11 years. They won a T20 World Cup title for the first time in 17 years after coming very close to doing so in 2014 and 2022. Meanwhile, India lost the T20 World Cup 2022 final, T20 World Cup semi-final 2022 and the 2023 ODI World Cup final under Rohit.

Under Virat, India also had some heartbreaks as they lost the 2017 Champions Trophy, the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final and faced an early exit in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Both Virat and Rohit announced their retirement from the T20I after the World T20 in India. Cup victory.

I don’t think much about the past and future. … I didn’t think I would retire from T20, but that situation came and I thought it was the perfect situation for me. Nothing better than winning the cup and saying goodbye,” Rohit said about his retirement from T20Is.
