Indian national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has spoken about the transformation he has brought to the team. The opening batsman said that it was his dream to bring about a change in the team and also thanked Jay Shah, Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar for the team’s success.

The Indian team is one of the strongest in world cricket. The term ‘fearless’ associated with the team was something that had not existed for a long time, but after the 2022 T20 World Cup, it has been a completely different Indian team.

The main reason behind this has been captain Rohit Sharma. The Indian captain, after facing a disappointing defeat in the semi-final of the tournament, brought a completely different mindset to the team. He instilled a fearless approach in the team and ruled out the fear factor in the team.

Rohit Sharma led from the front and showed the way to the team. With his attacking approach, he has provided a great start to the team. He led from the front in the ICC World Cup 2023, scored around 600 runs and led his team to the final.

After that, he made sure to keep performing in the same manner and put up a similar performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, scoring 257 runs and leading the team to the title win. He helped India end the title drought and win the ICC event for the first time after 2013.

Speaking about the transformation, Rohit Sharma said that he wanted to create a different environment in the team so that the players could play freely without thinking about results or statistics. He pointed to Jay Shah, Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar as the three pillars behind the change in the team. Speaking at the CEAT Awards, he explained:

“I think my dream was to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results and also make sure to create that environment where people could go out and play freely without thinking too much and that was what was required.

“I got a lot of help from my three pillars, which are Jay Shah sir, Rahul Dravid sir and the Chairman of Selectors (Ajit Agarkar). That was very important for me to do what I did and not forget the players who came in at different times and helped the team achieve what we achieved today.”

It was fantastic to bring the trophy home – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma also spoke about the 2024 T20 World Cup win. He said that it was a great feeling to win the trophy and bring it back home. He also spoke about his experience of celebrating the win with the fans. He explained:

“I can’t put into words the feeling. It was fantastic to be able to bring the trophy home and celebrate with the fans.”

Rohit Sharma has been sensational for India in all three formats this year. He has consistently collected runs for the team and has also led the team well. The Indian National Cricket Team captain was also awarded the CEAT International Cricketer of the Year Award.
