Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has praised Indian captain Rohit Sharma for his sensational performance as a leader in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He said that the Indian team captain set an example for the entire team in the tournament.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma was one of the most important factors in Team India winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. The team leader was sensational throughout the tournament, both as a captain and a leader, and set an example for the entire team at the mega event.

Rohit Sharma was on point with his tactical changes in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He was magnificent with the bowling changes and the field positions he set up. The opening batsman also instilled confidence in the entire team and ensured that he led from the front, leading his team to the title win. This also ended the title drought for the Indian team, which won the ICC trophy after 11 years.

Rohit Sharma was magnificent with the bat throughout the tournament. He batted aggressively and led from the front with the bat. He was the leading run-scorer for his team in the 2024 T20 World Cup as he scored 257 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 156.70. He also scored three fifties in the tournament, including one in the semi-final against England.

Shahid Afridi, speaking about the role of a leader, claimed that Rohit Sharma set a perfect example of a captain during the 2024 T20 World Cup. He highlighted how the batsman was aggressive from the very beginning and while speaking to PTI, he explained:

“Look, the role of a leader is always very important. The body language of the leader becomes the body language of the team. The leader has to lead by example. Take Rohit Sharma as an example.

“Now, look at his (Rohit’s) game and his style of play; the lower-order batsmen coming in have confidence because the captain likes to play aggressive and attacking cricket. That’s why I always think the role of the captain is very important.”

“I don’t know what the PCB president has in mind now.

Shahid Afridi also spoke about the Pakistan team captaincy saga and stated that he hopes the Pakistan Cricket Board will find a way to make some changes. He also admitted that they are weak at the grassroots level. He explained:

“I don’t know what the PCB chairman has in mind now and I am also waiting to see what changes will be made, but I have always supported the team and will continue to do so. I am also waiting to see what these changes will be.

“A positive decision needs to be taken and changes should not be just superficial. The real problem is at the grassroots level of our cricket. Our product is weak at the grassroots level and if we invest there, good players will emerge,” he concluded.
