Recently, he made a similar comment about former cricketers AB de Villiers and Kevin Pietersen. Former South Africa and England batsmen criticized Hardik Pandya’s captaincy in the ongoing IPL 2024. Gautam Gambhir reacted very harshly to the criticism and questioned the achievements of De Villiers and Pietersen as captains.
Gautam Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles, criticized De Villiers and Pietersen and said that neither of them managed to make any impact as a leader during their playing days. He went on to say that De Villiers has done nothing in the IPL “apart from his own scoring” while he defended Pandya.
“De Villiers and Pietersen’s results as captains are also not impressive,” Gambhir had said in a conversation with Sportskeeda.
“How was their own performance when they were the captain? I don’t think either Kevin Pietersen or AB de Villiers have had any career performance with leadership. Nothing. If you pick and see their records, I think they are worse than anyone else. leader. I don’t think AB de Villiers has achieved anything in the IPL apart from his own scores.

Atul Wassan criticizes Gautam Gambhir:
Gautam Gambhir’s comments on De Villiers and Pietersen have not gone down well with former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan. The former cricketer-turned-commentator claimed that Gambhir has a habit of creating controversies and he is doing it again. Wassan went on to say that he does not take Gambhir seriously.
“What are you saying? He is trying to create a controversy and he has a habit of doing so. I don’t take Gautam Gambhir seriously,” Wassan told India News, quoted by CricTracker.
Meanwhile, Gambhir is currently plying his trade as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. KKR booked their place in the playoffs by finishing on top of the points table.
