RR vs RCB: Watch: Faf du Plessis takes a stunner to remove Shimron Hetmyer and almost win the game for his team

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis gave his best for his team in the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The tie between the teams took place in the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (May 22).

Faf du Plessis didn’t have a great night with the bat against Rajasthan Royals but he made sure to give his best on the field. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain produced a brilliant effort towards the end of the match that almost tipped the match in his team’s favour.

Rajasthan Royals batsman Shimron Hetmyer was making big guns with the bat at the end and put Royal Challengers Bengaluru on the back foot. However, Mohammed Siraj picked two wickets in the single, including the scalp of the Caribbean batsman, to bring his team back into the game.

But the credit for that wicket goes to Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis, who took a brilliant catch. Mohammed Siraj bowled a full delivery which headed towards middle and leg, to which the batsman flicked and got a lead.

The ball flew up and Faf du Plessis, who was the cover man, ran back. He overran it but adjusted well when the ball dropped. He kept his eyes on the ball and made a magical catch to bring his team back into the game at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

Here is the video:

Shimron Hetmyer made a solid impact in the game and with his cameo he changed the game in favor of his team. The Caribbean batsman, who was returning from injury, played an innings of 26 runs off just 14 balls. He batted with a strike rate of over 185 and hit 3 fours and 1 six in his innings.

However, after coming out, Rovman Powell played a magnificent innings. The West Indies captain played an unbeaten 16-run winning innings off 8 balls. He hit two fours and a six in the 19th over against Lockie Ferguson and won the game for his team by 4 wickets.

It was a bat-to-ball situation – Rovman Powell

After the game, Rovman Powell spoke about his innings and stated that it was not a difficult situation but that he needed to hit the ball. He also talked about his effort in fielding and his 4 catches, saying that he wanted to risk his body. He stated:

“(The situation) wasn’t that difficult. It was a bat-to-ball situation, fortunately I minimized the pressure. I wanted to tell him to be positive instead of going for singles and unfortunately, it came out. (On his position of batting) If it were up to me, I would take it a little earlier. Having said that we have quality hitters and we have to accept the role and I hope to contribute more in this role.

“Sometimes you need things like this (Four catches). The first catch (off Faf) was the one that allowed me to make four catches. If I had left that, it would be a very difficult day on the field. When you have good players like Faf and Virat, you want those half chances to come. You put your body on the line. We have been playing good cricket in general, the last few games we have ruined in Chennai.“He concluded.
