Johannesburg hosts the third T20I SA vs IND on Thursday 14 December. After the first T20I due to rain, South Africa won the second T20I by DLS method in Gqeberha on Tuesday. India now needs to win the decider on Thursday to level the series.
Fifties from Rinku Singh (68*) and captain Suryaklumar Yadav went in vain as South Africa chased down 152 in less than 15 overs. This was after India posted 180/7 batting first in 19.3 0vers before rain intervened.
152 was the Proteas’ revised target and they got off to a cheerful start thanks to their openers. Reeza Hendricks was the top scorer with 49 and a quick cameo (30 off 17) by Aiden Markram brought the hosts closer to the target. David Miller (17), Tristan Stubbs (14*) and Andile Phehlukwayo (10*) ensured South Africa crossed the line with balls to spare.
A similar feature of both bowling attacks was that they were both wayward. Batting became relatively easier in the second half thanks to the rain that intervened in the game. Holding the ball was quite difficult for both groups of players after the ball entered the outfield.
India are now looking for a draw after losing the first T20I despite managing to deepen the game. At one point, it looked like the South Africans would win the game easily because of Markram’s wicket in the other 8 wickets and consecutive wickets in the 9th over slowed things down a bit. The Proteas, however, managed to evade pursuit.

Ottniel Baartman, the right-arm pacer, and Nandre Burger, the left-arm pacer are the two new faces in the T20I team. Quinton de Kock, who recently retired from ODIs after the World Cup, is not available for this tour. The rookies were not judged in the previous game.
The last time India toured South Africa in 2021, they lost the Test series 2-1 and were whitewashed in the ODI series. In the series also Virat Kohli resigned as India’s test skipper and was eventually removed as ODI skipper as well. India will play three ODIS and a two-match Test series after the end of the T20I series.
