Cape Town will host the second and final test of the ongoing two-match series between South Africa and Pakistan. The SA vs PAK match is scheduled to be played from Friday (January 3, 2025).
South Africa currently lead the series after their thrilling 2-wicket win in the first SA vs PAK Test in Centurion. With an unassailable lead already in their pocket, South Africa will be very confident and will look to win the second Test as well.
South Africa started the game on a good note as they defeated Pakistan by just 211 runs. Dane Paterson starred in the ball, taking 5 wickets, while debutant Corbin Bosch claimed 4 wickets. In response, the Proteas scored 301 runs thanks to fifties from Aiden Markram and Bosch.
South Africa bowled out Pakistan 237 runs and Marco Jansen took 6 wickets. With a target of 148 runs, South Africa were reeling at 99/8 before a 51-run stand between Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada took them home.

Newlands is one of the few grounds in South Africa that offers some help to spinners. However, things were very different in the last Test held at this venue. The match was played between South Africa and India in January last year.
Batting first, South Africa scored only 55 runs, while India scored 153. In the second innings, South Africa scored 176 before India chased the target of 79 runs by losing three wickets. The Pacers had completely dominated the process.. No player had singled in that game.
The ICC later rated the pitch as “unsatisfactory” under the ICC Field and Garden Monitoring Process. The conditions could be different this time and the spinners could make their presence felt in the next game.
Conclusion:
The weather report is very promising for the upcoming SA vs PAK second test. Rain is very unlikely to be a spoilsport during the game. With the conditions in Cape Town likely to be challenging for the batsmen, the upcoming game could also turn out to be an exciting contest.
