Johannesburg Super Kings (JSK) batsman Faf du Plessis turned into a bird during the ongoing fight. SA20 2024 match against Mumbai Indians in Cape Town. The match between the two teams will take place at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Mumbai Cape Town Indians were asked to bat first and put up a magnificent performance with the bat. Rassie van der Dussen (103) and Ryan Rickleton (98) took the bowlers to the cleaners and smashed them all over the park. They added 200 runs for the inaugural partnership.
After the partnership broke down, Dewald Brevis came out to bat and tried to get some runs early. However, his stay in the box was cut short by the brilliance of Faf du Plessis on the field. The former South African captain went blind.
Lizaad Williams bowled a length ball around the stump which Dewald Brevis tried to advance towards. He ended up slashing the ball with the outside half of his bat. The ball went over midfield and was almost certain to land in no man’s land.
But Faf du Plessis ran back quickly and dived. He caught the ball with one hand and made many people go crazy. It’s fair to say that only he could have caught a screamer like that.

Dewald Brevis could only make 5 runs. But overall, Mumbai Cape Town Indians had a magnificent outing with the bat. Most of the damage was done by the openers as they played a dominant brand of cricket. It was a heartbreak for Ryan Rickleton as he fell just 2 runs short of his ton.
After the toppers came out, Liam Livingstone (12) and Kieron Pollard (9*) delivered some strong knocks late on as Mumbai Indians in Cape Town posted a mammoth total of 243 runs on the board. For Johannesburg Super Kings, Nandre Burger picked up two wickets, while Lizaad Williams, Romario Shepherd and Imran Tahir picked a scalp each.
SA20 2024: Faf du Plessis involved in mix-up as Reeza Hendricks runs out
The Johannesburg Super Kings did not have a great start to chase as they lost Reeza Hendricks early on. The batsman was involved in a mix-up with Faf du Plessis and had to make the unfortunate long walk back to the pavilion.
Beuran Hendricks threw an inswinger to Faf du Plessis, who flicked the ball in front of the square post at mid-wicket. Liam Livingstone ducked a deep square leg, stopped the boundary and sent the shot to the bowler’s end.
Faf du Plessis wanted a third and was on the non-striker’s side, but Reeza Hendricks couldn’t achieve it. She sacrificed herself to save Du Plessis. The batsman scored a two-ball duck and was very unlucky. After his wicket, Ronan Hermann also passed away.
Now the responsibility of taking his team home would fall to Faf du Plessis. A lot would depend on him. It remains to be seen how he undertakes this chase. So far, he has looked in good contact and would be looking to play a big shot.
