Sameer Rizvi creates history for CSK as he enters elite list after spectacular IPL debut

Sameer Rizvi, on Tuesday (March 26), announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League in style by hitting the first ball he faced for a six.

The highly-rated right-handed batsman made his debut for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL last week during the first match of the tournament against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, as CSK won that game by six wickets, Sameer Rizvi did not get a chance to bat.

Their chances of batting in CSK’s second game of the season looked slim and Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell were going strong against the Gujarat Titans. However, Rashid Khan dismissed Dube for 51 in the 19th over and the CSK team management sent Sameer Rizvi to bat.

Sameer Rizvi enters the elite list:

While Sameer Rizvi’s talent is well known, not many expected him to bowl big on the first ball he faced against Rashid Khan, one of the best spinners in the world. However, the 20-year-old showed why he is rated so highly when he hit the first ball he faced in his IPL career for a six.

The right-handed batsman took a knee and swept the Afghan superstar hard for a six over deep backward square leg. In the same over, the Uttar Pradesh youngster hit Rashid for another six. He eventually scored 14 runs and was dismissed by Mohit Sharma in the last over of the innings.

While the CSK batsman faced just six deliveries in his first IPL innings, it was enough to get him into an elite list. He has now become the ninth player in IPL history to hit a six off the first ball of his career. Rob Quiney was the first to reach the milestone, in 2009.

The first Indian to achieve this incredible milestone is Aniket Choudhary, who did it in 2017 before Siddhesh Lad repeated that feat in 2019. Sameer Rizvi became the first CSK player to achieve the feat and also the youngest to do so.
