Indian wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has finally broken his silence on not getting consistent opportunities in the Indian team despite having a decent record. He said he doesn’t think about it as he tries to stay positive and focus on what is under his control.
Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has been one of the most exciting talents in Indian cricket. He has been scoring runs consistently in both the domestic circuit and the IPL. The wicketkeeper-batsman has also performed reasonably well in the few opportunities he has gotten in the Indian team.
Despite that, Sanju Samson has not been getting consistent opportunities in the Indian team. Things have always been unfair for him as even after performing at his best, he has always failed to be the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman for the team, with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul being preferred over him.
Sanju Samson has not been getting any opportunities in the first team. Whenever there has been an ICC tournament for ODIs, he has been getting a chance in the T20Is. And when the T20 World Cups come around, he is selected for the ODIs, which in itself speaks volumes about how the management has treated him.
Sanju Samson was also not selected for the Indian squad for the ODI series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The wicketkeeper-batsman in the last ODI he played scored a century by scoring a stunning ton against South Africa in their backyard and played an innings of 108 runs in 114 balls at Paarl. Despite that, he failed to make it into the squad and the BCCI received a lot of criticism.
During an interaction on Zee TV, a reporter asked Sanju Samson, “You scored a century in South Africa but you were dropped from the ODI squad. In an ODI World Cup year, you play T20Is, and in a T20 World Cup year, you play ODIs. There is a lot of buzz on social media about this. What are your thoughts on the selection?”
Responding to this, Sanju Samson stated that the team is doing well and there is no problem and he goes whenever the team asks him to. He stated that he is focused on his training which is helping him improve. He explained:
“When they call me to play, I go and play. If not, it’s okay. I don’t think too much. The team is doing well, so there’s no problem. I prefer to stay positive and focus on what I can control. I put maximum effort into my training and hard work, which is to improve my game.”
I want to take my career forward, so I am focusing on improving my game – Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson further stated that he wants to take his career forward and is currently focusing on making things better. He stated:
“I want to move my career forward, so I’m just focusing on improving my game and focusing on what’s within my control.”
In response to this, the journalist said, “The coach has praised you a lot, so I hope it is good.” Sanju replied yes and smiled.
