Australia Women’s captain Alyssa Healy faced heartbreak during the ongoing one-off Test against South Women in Perth on Thursday (February 15). The batsman fell just one run short of what could have been her maiden century in the longest format of the game.

Alyssa Healy came to bat at number 5 and played a magnificent innings for her team. The Australian captain made sure to keep her team in the dominant position. She played some accurate shots in her innings and looked ready for a big knock, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Alyssa Healy made 99 runs and it was a headache for her. Australia’s captain tried to play the ball from bowler Delmi Tucker until the end. She didn’t get the right connection and got a leading edge that was caught by the player herself.

Here is the video:

Alyssa Healy scored 99 runs off 124 balls with the help of 16 fours in the first innings. This is her highest score in Test cricket. During the innings, she surpassed her previous best of 58 against England in 2019. With the way she got out of it, she would have been extremely gutted about her.

After leaving 99, Alyssa Healy joined her husband Mitchell Starc in a unique feat. Both players now have the highest score of 99 in Test cricket. The lanky pacer achieved the feat against India in Mohali in 2013.

Alyssa Healy became the 27th Australian and the fourth Australian woman to score 99. In women’s cricket, she joined the likes of Jess Jonassen, Jill Kennare and Ellyse Perry to achieve the disappointing feat that bears her name.

Alyssa Healy has a decent record in Test cricket. In the 9 Tests that she has played so far she has scored 455 runs with an average of 30.33. The Australian captain has also smashed three half-centuries in her career. With the kind of ability she possesses, it is expected that her number will increase.

That’s really cute, it’s Valentine’s Day: Mel Jones over Mitchell Starc and Alyssa Healy share the same test score.

Australian commentator Mel Jones came up with a hilarious reaction after Alyssa Healy got out for 99. He highlighted Valentine’s Day and said the batsman might have had that in mind. She explained:

“I have solved it. It all makes sense to me. Mitch Starc, highest Test score, 99 against India. So, husband and wife now share their highest test scores together. She’s just going to say that it’s her kindness that comes through.

“Knowing how competitive Healy is, Haynes wasn’t too sure. That’s really nice, it’s Valentine’s Day. I’m not sure that’s what she had in mind. “I’ve seen them both on the golf course, that’s definitely not what she had in mind.”

At Stumps, the Australian women led by 175 runs with 5 wickets remaining in their first innings. They were feeling 12 for 3 after bowling out the opposition for 76. But Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney’s 155-run stand got them back into the match.
