A unique incident occurred during the 36th match of the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL) between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at the Gabba when a fire broke out in the DJ booth on the third tier of the ground.
The incident occurred after four overs in the second innings of the match when the Hobart Hurricanes were batting. As a result, the work was delayed by a few minutes. A man used the fire extinguisher and was seen trying to close it.
However, their efforts were not enough and another extinguisher was necessary. Fans were immediately evacuated from nearby stands. After many efforts, the fire was finally brought under control.

Marnus Labuschagne shines for Brisbane Heat
Earlier in the day, Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to play first. Home team Brisbane Heat lost Nathan McSweeney early but captain Usman Khawaja gave them a passionate start at the top.
Khawaja scored 23 off just 9 balls with 3 fours and a six but was dismissed by Nathan Ellis. However, Marnus Labuschagne and Matt Renshaw built a strong partnership and put Brisbane Heat on top.
Both scored runs freely and continued to score. Renshaw was dismissed for 40 off just 25 deliveries with 3 fours and 2 sixes, but Labuschagne continued. He was equally impressive against pace and spin bowling.
Labuschagne was eventually caught by Nathan Ellis bowling on the last ball of the innings. He was dismissed for a brilliant 77 off 44 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Tom Alsop also played a key role in the order to lead Brisbane Heat to 201-6 in 20 overs.
Hobart Hurricanes off to good start
Hobart Hurricanes got off to a good start in response. The starting pairing of Caleb Jewell and Mitchell Owen gave their team a devastating start and weren’t even bothered by the slight delay in play due to the fire.
Owen was more aggressive as he bowled a ball of 20-40 with 1 four and 6 sixes. But he was dismissed by Brisbane Heat left-arm seamer Spencer Johnson. Charlie Wakim made it to number 3 but was stumped for a duck by leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson.
Nikhil Chaudhary came next and formed a good partnership with the set opener Caleb Jewell. Chaudhary and Jewell, but they batted well and Hobart Hurricanes were on course to chase a discouraging score. They needed 59 runs in the last six overs with eight wickets in hand.
