Virat Kohli’s horror run with the bat in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 continued on Monday (June 24) when he was out in the ongoing game between India and Australia.
India needed a good start from their star openers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the crucial Super 8 game after Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. While India are in a very good position after winning their first two Super 8 games, a loss against Australia has the potential to knock them out of the tournament.
In such a high-pressure situation, India would have liked a good start from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, the former India captain couldn’t even open his account and went for a duck in the second over of the game. It is his second duck in the ongoing tournament. Before, he could not open his account against the United States either.
On the fourth ball of the over, Hazlewood returned Virat Kohli with a short ball. The Indian opener attempted a shot, but ended up smashing the ball towards mid-on, where Tim David took a good catch. The latest failure has further extended Virat Kohli’s dismal campaign in the T20 World Cup.
The veteran batsman is yet to touch the 40-run mark in 6 innings in the tournament. In the group stage, he managed to score only 5 runs in 3 games, recording scores of 1, 4 and 0. He had outings in the first two Super 8 games, but could not convert them into big scores, scoring 24 and 37 against Afghanistan and Bangladesh respectively.

Talking about the game, India were 43 for 1 in the fifth over when rain stopped play in St. Lucia. While Virat Kohli came out cheap, his partner Rohit Sharma has looked brilliant in touch so far. Of the 43 runs India have scored so far, he has scored 41 of them off just 14 balls with the help of two fours and five sixes.
