Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has come under serious criticism. According to media reports, a legal notice has been sent to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) demanding the immediate removal of Shakib Al Hasan from the national team.

It is noteworthy that the legal notice that was sent to the Bangladesh Cricket Board cited the International Cricket Council (ICC) rules. The notice stated that as per the rules of the governing body, Shakib Al Hasan should not be allowed to play international cricket as he is facing a criminal case.

On Friday, August 23, Shakib hit the headlines after reports surfaced suggesting that the all-rounder has been charged in the murder case during the civil protests in Bangladesh. It emerged that the former team captain was among the 147 accused persons who are linked to the case.

The murder case in which Shakib is accused is that of the death of textile worker Mohammed Rubel. Reports claim that the multi-hyphenate is the 28th accused in the FIR filed in connection with the alleged murder.

“In the statement of case, the complainant alleged that some of the accused, on direct or indirect instructions from others, opened fire while hundreds of students, including Rubel, were protesting on Ring Road in Adabod area on August 5,” the outlet’s report stated.

According to the submitted report, it was learnt that the deceased was injured after being hit by multiple bullets during the protest. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries two days later. However, in a surprising development, it was learnt that Shakib Al Hasan was not in the country on 5 August.

The all-rounder was in Canada as captain of the Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the Global T20 Canada league in Brampton. However, he is not the only big name in the FIR as along with former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, some former ministers and lawmakers have been charged.

Amidst all the brouhaha, a report on bdcrictime.com claimed that Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Shajib Mahmood Alam was the one who sent a legal notice to the BCB and demanded Shakib’s immediate removal from the national team.

Shakib Al Hasan is currently part of the Bangladesh national cricket team for the ongoing test match against the Pakistan national cricket team. The match has been played for four days and is currently being held at the Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Shakib Al Hasan has failed to make an impact on the game with either bat or ball. The all-rounder in the first innings took just one wicket with the ball and could not make a major impact with the bat either. He scored 15 runs and will now be eager to contribute to his team in the second innings.
