Shan Masood makes surprising statement about ‘mentally weak’ in Pakistan Test team

Pakistan captain Shan Masood faced another defeat as his country’s Test captain when Pakistan lost to England by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test of the series in Multan. As a result, Masood was visibly upset by his team’s performance.

The Pakistan captain was asked some tough questions during the post-match presentation. One such question was about the mental strength of the Pakistan cricket team as the team has not been able to cope with constant defeats.

Shan Masood feels Pakistan is not mentally weak

When Shan Masood was asked about Pakistan’s mental strength, he was quick to admit that his team was not mentally weak. He admitted that Pakistan collapsed in their second innings and the result could have been different if they had got a good score on the board.

“I won’t say my team is mentally weak. The third innings in isolation may seem like a collapse where everything went wrong. But if we could have kept England close to our score, then the 220 runs made today might have seemed like a gamble. difficult in the last innings,” Shan Masood said.

Already under pressure due to poor results in Test cricket, Shan Masood suffered a sixth consecutive defeat as captain of Pakistan. The first three losses came in Australia, where they were shut out by the home team 3-0.

Bangladesh subsequently shocked Pakistan by defeating them 2-0 a little over a month ago. Now, the defeat against England in the first test makes it six defeats in a row.

“We have to find a way to capitalize” – Shan Masood

Masood stated that it hurts after losing like that and making the same mistakes over and over again. He asked his team to stop making excuses and look for ways to win a Test match.

“I couldn’t be more disappointed. Losing as a Pakistan player and as captain hurts a lot. During my tenure, we have repeated the same mistake, we have organized test matches and we have not taken advantage. We have to find a way to take advantage. We should not point fingers finger at any individual or the institution. If we want to win a Test match, we have to find a way, it’s that simple,” he added.

While Pakistan lost the test match, Shan Masood had a pretty good game as a batsman. After a series of low scores in Test cricket, the left-hander scored 151 off 177 balls in Pakistan’s first innings. He smashed 13 fours and 2 sixes during the match.

England win a memorable Test match

Pakistan scored 556 runs in their first innings thanks to hundreds from Masood, Abdullah Shafique and Salman Ali Agha. It looked like Pakistan had avoided a defeat at the time, but England’s Bazball style changed everything.

The visitors put up a display of superb batting performances on what looked like a flat pitch in Multan. Joe Root and Harry Brook put together a 454-run partnership for the fourth wicket as England were hammered 823-7 in their first innings. Root scored 262 while Brook was dismissed for 317.

Trailing by 267 runs after the first innings, Pakistan’s batsmen panicked at some brilliant deliveries from the English bowlers. Salman Ali Agha and Aamer Jamal scored fifties, but the collapse of the top order meant Pakistan were out for just 220.
