Former India Test specialist VVS Laxman has explained the value of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy to Indian fans, players and officials in the latest X-rated video. VVS Laxman said it was a special win for everyone.

VVS Laxman is a former Indian star who also works as the Chief Director of the NCA. He was one of the crucial members of the Indian team in the late 90s and early 2000s with Rahul Dravid and was known as the Laxman of the Indian cricket team. Laxman and Dravid are always considered among the best Test specialists in Indian cricket.

Rahul Dravid was the head coach of the Rohit Sharma & Boys team that won the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. Under Dravid’s leadership, Team India failed to win the ICC title by a narrow margin for the last four years. However, they finally won it for their batting legend, just before his resignation as the head coach of Team India.

VVS Laxman explains the value of T20 World Cup title for Team India

VVS Laxman appeared in a BCCI video in which he explained why the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was a surprise triumph for the Indian team. He made several points about the value of the ICC title; one of which was the excitement of the players and support staff.

“Yeah, it’s obviously a special feeling, you know, winning the World Cup, because when you play against the best in a trophy, which means a lot to all the players involved in that tournament, and then the kind of finish we had after being under pressure from the South African batsmen, 30 runs to score off 30 balls,” he said.

“And from there, showing character, resilience and self-confidence to emerge from the jaws of defeat, I think that shows the character of the entire team,” he added.

India should have won the ODI World Cup last year: Laxman

Laxman also believes that India should have won the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 last year but failed to clear the final hurdle. India won all the ODI World Cup matches last year but failed to win the final against Australia at home.

“And it’s a special feeling, considering we came close, just six months ago, you know, we should have won the 50-overs World Cup, dominated the whole tournament and then not being able to cross the final hurdle,” the 49-year-old added.

“Everyone showed their emotions, so it showed how much it meant to each and every player in the team. And not just the 11 players, but the support staff, the coaching staff, the emotions were really running high,” said Laxman, who played 134 Test matches and 86 ODIs for India between 1996 and 2006.

India won their second ICC T20 World Cup title after 2007 when they won the debut edition under then captain MS Dhoni. India came close to the title in other editions but could only clinch it for the second time under Rohit Sharma in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
