Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan off to poor start in Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have been out of the national team and are playing in the Ranji Trophy to regain their places, especially in the Test team.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan did not have a great start to a new Ranji Trophy season as they failed to create any impact in the first innings. Iyer got off to the worst possible start, registering an 8-ball duck during the match between Baroda and Mumbai at the Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara.

Coming in at number 5, Iyer failed to open his account and Bhargav Bhatt dumped it. By the time he reached the crease, Mumbai had lost two quick wickets and needed stability through prudent partnership, but Iyer did not last long, putting his team in more trouble.

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan could only score 21 runs in 32 balls before losing his wicket during the Assam and Jharkhand game at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. He came to bat at No. 6 and got off to a decent start, looking ready to unleash after making a few deliveries.

However, just before he could move on, Mukhtar Hussain cut his innings short. Kishan would have liked to get off to a bright start and make a statement as captain in a new season, but it wasn’t to be.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan look to regain their places in the national team

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have been out of the national team and are playing in the Ranji Trophy to regain their places, especially in the Test team. Both were excluded from the BCCI central contract earlier this year after they did not participate in the domestic tournaments.

Since then, the duo have been away from the team, looking to make an impact on the national stage and push again. After the contract snub, Iyer has played in ODIs but has been out of the other two formats.

Meanwhile, Kishan has been continually ignored since returning to competitive cricket, even though he has featured in a few domestic competitions. Several batsmen have moved ahead in the pecking order in the longer format, and the only way to make a comeback is by accumulating big runs.

A slow start in the most prestigious Indian domestic tournament will not help them. However, the duo will have more scoring opportunities in the coming days and will need to take advantage of them.
