India national cricket team’s batting sensation Shubman Gill has issued an official statement regarding captain Rohit Sharma’s absence from the training session a day ahead of the crucial Brisbane Test against the Australian national cricket team.

I think he practiced enough: Shubman Gill on Rohit Sharma
India captain Rohit did not attend the pre-match press conference ahead of the Brisbane Test. Instead, the team management sent the young Gill to interact with the media.
Furthermore, he was not seen at the team’s training session just a day before the crucial match. Shubman Gill was asked about Rohit Sharma’s absence, and the white-ball vice-captain revealed that the veteran batsman had already practiced enough for the match; therefore, he decided to skip the optional practice session to stay fresh for the game.
“Yes, this was an optional practice session and I think he practiced enough,” said India national cricket team batsman Shubman Gill.
Notably, Rohit Sharma has been going through a rough patch in Test cricket and has not fired in his last 6 Test matches. In the matches against Bangladesh, he recorded scores of 6, 5, 23 and 8 and then followed it up with scores of 2, 52, 0, 8, 18 and 11 in the New Zealand series. Also, in the Adelaide Test, he scored 3 and 6 runs in two innings.
I definitely feel pretty safe playing here – Shubman Gill
Gill was one of the heroes of India’s historic 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory and played a key role in the Brisbane Test victory. Speaking about playing at the venue again, Gill said he is very confident. He said:
“I definitely felt a lot of nostalgia when I came here. Just walking through the stadium again after the 2021 victory made me feel very nostalgic. “I definitely feel pretty safe playing here.”
Gill further revealed that captain Rohit Sharma has high expectations in the batting order ahead of the third Test after the failure in the pink ball Test. He said:
“We are looking to post a grand total first. “We are a little more used to playing with the red ball during the day.”
Yes, while batting I have felt good – Shubman Gill
The right-handed batsman missed the Perth Test due to a thumb injury, but recovered quickly and featured in the Adelaide Test, where he scored 31 and 28 runs respectively.
Talking about his performance so far, Gill said he feels good and enjoyed his time in the middle.
“Yes, while I am batting I have felt good. In the first innings I was affected by what happened at the other end, I went into my shell and missed a fastball.
“In the second innings, we all found it difficult to locate the ball and its position. Generally, as a hitter, you are better when you can spot the seam. I found it difficult to spot, but all the time I’ve spent at the crease so far, I’ve enjoyed it to the core.”
