When the fielder stopped the ball, Gill angrily shouted “Fuck them”, probably out of frustration at not finding the space.

Shubman Gill was caught shouting ‘fuck you’ on the sixth delivery of the 14 bowled by Scott Boland in the Adelaide Test. The noise was so loud that almost everyone watching the coverage could hear it clearly.

Boland bowled a longer delivery outside the crease, to which Shubman Gill stepped forward and drove towards the cover-point region. However, his placement was inaccurate so Gill was unable to drill the space and the ball went straight to Nathan Lyon.

When the defender stopped the ball, Gill angrily shouted ‘Fuck him’, probably out of frustration at not finding space. Had he crossed the gap, Gill would have earned himself a limit, which sparked anger, and Gill couldn’t resist letting everyone know.

Those words were not directed at any Australian player or anyone; they were just there because he didn’t get the desired result with the ball, and those things happen on the cricket field. There have been numerous cases of players venting on the cricket field after playing a bad shot or failing to get the timing and location right.

Shubman Gill comes out after looking good at the crease

India had lost Yashasvi Jaiswal on the first delivery of the game, so Shubman Gill arrived at the crease quite early, off just the second ball. However, he was solid in his technique and played with superior authority in difficult conditions with the pink ball.

When he attempted his boundary shots, Gill did so without hesitation and while defending, he was right behind the line of the ball. Everything was going well before India collapsed, and Gill was a part of it.

Boland bowled a longer delivery to Gill, who attempted a flick but completely missed his shot to get LBW out. He should have continued his innings for longer, but Boland bowled exceptionally well and tempted Gill into a mistake.

He left after scoring 31 good scores from 51 deliveries, including five boundaries during his stay. He looked the most comfortable batsman in the top four, but his innings ended abruptly before he could convert his opening into a big score.
