Indian women’s cricket team Spinner Sneh Rana shared her thoughts on the team’s prospects in the upcoming ICC tournaments, taking inspiration from the men’s team’s long-awaited triumph.

He stressed that just as the Indian cricket team Although the women had to wait a decade to win another ICC trophy, the women’s team can look to repeat that success. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team recently clinched the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup with a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final on June 29 in Barbados.

Sneh Rana draws parallels between India’s men’s and women’s ICC trophies successes

And Rana believes that this historic win can serve as a motivational boost for the Indian women. The Indian women’s team is all set to begin the defence of their Women’s Asia Cup title against Pakistan on July 19 in Sri Lanka. However, the real test for the Indian girls will come with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in October and the ODI World Cup 2025 in India next year.

The Indian women’s team has come close to ICC glory in the past, losing in the 2005 and 2017 ODI World Cup finals to Australia and England respectively, and falling short in the 2020 T20 World Cup final against Australia. However, Rana is confident that they will go all the way to lift the cup this time around.

Furthermore, Rana praised the Indian women’s cricket team for their consistent efforts over the last 2-3 years, noting that just as it took the men’s team almost a decade to secure another ICC trophy, the women’s team is on a similar path, working hard and preparing for their moment.

The Indian spinner acknowledged that achieving success at ICC events is a constant process, requiring time, sacrifices and perseverance, but remains optimistic that the women’s team will eventually achieve its goal. Her comments came ahead of the start of the 2024 Women’s Asian Cup.

We will get there eventually: Sneh Rana on Indian women’s long wait to win ICC trophy

Sneh Rana was quoted by PTI as saying:“The Indian women’s cricket team, if you look at the last two-three years, is doing the best it can. To win the ICC trophy, take the men’s team as an example. It took them almost ten years to achieve it. They have been preparing and working hard for it for a long time. To achieve something big, it will not happen overnight. It will take time. It will take a lot of sacrifices, a lot of struggles and a lot of things in between. But, in the end, we will achieve it.”

The Indian shuttler stressed that mistakes are a natural part of playing numerous matches and do not reflect that a player is performing below her potential. She stressed that every player aims to perform at their best for their country, although she acknowledged that mistakes can happen, sometimes due to a bad day.

Rana also mentioned that playing in major tournaments will help them gain experience, which is crucial in their quest for ICC trophies. Rana concluded by saying, “When we play N number of matches, the chances of making mistakes are more. But that doesn’t mean someone is bad at it. Obviously, as a player, when you are on the field, you always want to do the best for your country. Nobody is there to say that it is okay; it will happen (ho jayega). But it could also be a matter of someone having a bad day. As far as ICC trophies are concerned, for big events, the more matches we play, the more experience we will gain.”
