Sophie Ecclestone and Muttiah Muralitharan

England women’s national cricket team player Sophie Ecclestone has achieved a huge feat in the history of international cricket. She is just behind the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan and Bishan Bedi in an elite list of bowlers with the most consecutive innings in which a wicket has been taken in the game.

Sophie Ecclestone has achieved the feat in 34 consecutive innings in her international cricket. Her streak ended during the recently concluded fifth T20I against the New Zealand Women’s National Cricket Team. The match between the two teams took place on Wednesday (July 17) at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Sophie Ecclestone did not get any wicket in the fifth T20I against the New Zealand Women’s National Cricket Team and this was the first time in 34 innings that she did not get a wicket in the game. Since last year, she has made sure that she steps up for her team and gets a wicket at least every time she is on the field.

Sophie Ecclestone did not have a great performance with the ball during the match against New Zealand in the fifth T20I. She bowled poor lines and lengths while the New Zealand batters took advantage of that and left her with nothing. She came into the attack late and that did not help as the batters were prepared and showed no mercy.

In the 4 overs she bowled, Sophie Ecclestone gave away 30 runs and had an economy of around 8. However, fortunately, her going wicketless did not cost the England Women’s National Cricket Team much as the rest of the bowlers chipped in and helped them win the game.

Lauren Bell was the best bowler as she bowled 4 overs and gave away 23 runs, picking up three crucial wickets for her team. Besides her, Freya Kamp and Charlotte Dean picked up two wickets each while Lauren Filer picked up one wicket as England restricted New Zealand to a total of 134 runs to win the match by 20 runs.

England put in a good showing with the bat at the start. Alice Capsley (25) played well as the number 3 batter, but the real attack came from captain Heather Knight. She scored an unbeaten 46 runs off 31 balls and was supported by Charlie Dean (24) as England posted a total of 155/7.

England women’s national cricket team completed the victory in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand women’s national cricket team. They started the series with a huge margin as they won the first game by a huge margin of 59 runs and then went on to register 23 runs in the second game.

In the third T20I, the England Women’s National Cricket Team took a 6-wicket win to seal the series. But they didn’t stop there as they went on to record a 7-wicket win before defeating the New Zealand Women’s National Cricket Team by 20 runs to win the series by a 5-0 margin.

Most consecutive innings with one wicket in the game

Bishan Bedi holds the record for having taken wickets in the most number of consecutive innings. He took wickets in 46 consecutive innings and is followed by Nepalese pace bowler Sandeep Lamichhane who achieved the feat 43 times. Dennis Lilee and Muttiah Muralitharan are also on the list along with Sophie Ecclestone.
