Anrich Nortje ruled out of Champions Trophy 2025

He was initially named in the Proteas squad for the ICC event.

The South African team has been dealt a heavy blow after talisman Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to start on February 19.

Nortje, who was acquired by defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 6.5 crore ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season, will miss the ICC event due to a back injury .

The fast bowler last represented South Africa during the 2024 T20 World Cup and was recently included in the 2025 Champions Trophy squad in hopes of a timely recovery. Unfortunately, scans performed on Monday (January 13) did not reveal any positive results, officially ruling him out of the main tournament.

He also missed last night’s (14 January) SA20 2025 match for Paarl Royals against MI Cape Town and is likely to be sidelined for a significant period.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is yet to announce a replacement but is expected to do so in due course.
