THE LOWDOWN
SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa bounced back in style by beating India by eight wickets in the second ODI and perhaps the most pleasing aspect of all from the Proteas’ perspective was the performance of their openers. Chasing 212 to win, Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi put on 130 for the first wickets, the latter ending with an unbeaten 119. Both players are trying to force their way into the ODI team on a permanent basis and their respective showings will have done their hopes no harm.
INDIA
Unlike the first ODI, India’s bowlers were unable to break through a stubborn South African top order, after their batters had misfired earlier in the match, bowled out for just 211. Sai Sudharsan was a rare bright spot though, the young batter struck 62 opening the batting for the tourists, but no player went on to reach three figures and the hosts managed the chase fairly comfortably.
THE PREDICTION
South Africa deserve real credit for how strongly they came back after a really poor first ODI showing and arrive in Paarl on a high. They’ll be hoping for a good batting surface and that their experience, combined with the proven international performers within their line-up sees them bully a fairly young Indian side and ultimately get the better of them.
