South Africa has opted to field a full squad for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan. Temba Bavuma will lead the team with several top players returning to the ODI fold.
David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj return to the ODI squad after missing the team’s last ODI series against Ireland. Young Kwena Maphaka is the only non-international player on the team who has a lot of experience.

The return of David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj will give the team a lot of confidence. Considering their class and experience, all of these players are likely to be in your first-choice XI.
The return of these players clearly indicates the strategy of South Africa, which has begun its preparations for next year’s Champions Trophy. Rabada and Maharaj were in good form in their recent assignment against Sri Lanka in Tests.
Senior fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who was ruled out of the T20I series due to a broken toe, also remains out of the ODI squad.
Miller and Klaasen are currently playing the T20I series against Pakistan. Klaasen is the captain of the team but he failed to score big in the first T20I. But Miller looked in fine form as he scored a magnificent 82 off just 40 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes.
Meanwhile, the team will be led by Temba Bavuma, who was also captain in the Proteas’ last ODI series against Ireland played in Abu Dhabi. The Proteas won the three-match ODI series 2-1.
Ryan Rickelton chosen as second goalkeeper
Talented top-order batsman and wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton has also found a place in the team. He recently scored his first international hundred during the Test series against Sri Lanka.
Rickelton is already seen as a big player for the Proteas in the future. The 28-year-old is the team’s second goalkeeper after Klaasen. Tone de Zorzi, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton are the team’s top three.
Tabraiz Shamsi is the second player in the South African team after Keshav Maharaj. Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo are the two versatile players in the team.
Teenage fast bowler Kwena Maphaka is also in the team. The left-arm quick is currently playing in the T20I series against Pakistan and is likely to have a game or two in the ODI series as well.
